Water standing in the base is a drain fault, not automatically a pump fault. Most machines quoted for a new drain pump need the filter, sump and impeller cleared instead â so that is where we start.
We are an independent repair company â not an authorized service center of any dishwasher brand. Brand names on this page identify only the machines we repair, and all trademarks remain the property of their owners.

Dishwasher drain pump replacement in Dubai is quoted far more often than it is needed. Water standing in the base at the end of a cycle, or a drain error, makes the pump the obvious suspect. In most machines we open, it is not the culprit.
The pump is a small motor with a plastic impeller at the lowest point of the tub. Everything the filter misses arrives there â fruit stickers, rice, cherry stones, twist ties, glass shards â and any one can wedge against a blade and stop it turning. The motor is then perfectly healthy and unable to move water.
Add a filter not lifted out in months, a sump silting up beneath it, and a non-return flap propped open so drained water runs back in, and you have three causes of a supposedly dead pump sharing one fix.
Two local conditions speed that fouling up. In summer the cold supply is not cold: uninsulated rooftop tanks have been reported at 50 to 60 degrees and villa cold lines often deliver 35 to 40, against a dishwasher inlet temperature manufacturers put at roughly 49. Fill that hot and almost no heating phase is left to run, so detergent enzymes are denatured before they act and protein soils bake on, arriving in the sump as solids.
The second is sediment. Municipal rules in Dubai require residential water tanks to be cleaned at least twice a year, and where that slips fine grit travels with the supply. So we start at the sump. If clearing it restores drainage, that is what you are charged for.
A pump is proved dead by measurement, never by the symptom.
Nothing at all when the cycle calls for drain. Points at supply, wiring or control as often as at the pump.
Power arriving, rotor not turning. Far more often an obstruction against a blade than a burnt-out motor.
Power off, it should spin freely and coast. Gritty drag suggests a bearing; a hard stop is an obstruction.
Measured across the terminals with the connector off. An open circuit is a failed pump. A sensible reading is not.
Many modern pumps are commanded by the control board. No drive signal means the pump itself is innocent.
Kinked hose, missing or excessive high loop, silted sink spigot, or the blanking plug never removed at installation.

Blocked is by far the most common finding. Debris jams the impeller, or packs the sump so tightly the pump churns without shifting anything. Clear it and the impeller spins freely again. Nothing is replaced.
Seized means the impeller will not turn with the cavity emptied and clean. The bearing has worn or corroded. That is a genuine replacement, and we say so plainly.
Electrically failed is the least common. The winding reads open circuit or shorted, confirmed with a meter across the terminals, not inferred from the noise. Where the board commands the pump, we confirm drive is being sent before condemning either â otherwise you buy a pump and keep the fault.
One safety point, and it matters more than anything else here. If a glass has ever broken in the machine, assume there are fragments in the sump. They are invisible against wet stainless steel and sharp enough to go through a fingertip. Never sweep a sump by hand. Unplug at the socket, bail the water out, then lift out what you can see with a torch and long-nose pliers.
Stop at the impeller cover. If debris sits behind it, a home check ends there â the cover is not made to come off repeatedly, and its seal becomes a slow leak once disturbed. Anything needing the machine pulled out, tilted or unwired is ours.
Ordered from cheapest to most expensive, and it stops the moment the fault is found.
Power off at the socket, standing water bailed out. Nothing is diagnosed on a machine that is live and half full.
Filter assembly out and rinsed, sump well cleared, non-return flap checked for debris holding it open. Many jobs end here.
Cavity checked for glass, stones and wire, then the impeller turned by hand for free rotation and coast.
Continuity and resistance across the terminals with the connector removed, plus confirmation the board sends drive during drain.
Hose, high loop, sink waste spigot and, on recent installations, the blanking plug very often left in at fitting.
Fault, fix and price agreed with you before a part is fitted. If a clear-out solved it, that is the invoice.
And the longer list of findings that mean it does not.
A drain pump is one of the cheaper parts in a dishwasher, well below a wash pump or a control board, and on most models a straightforward fit. The judgement is the machine around it, and we set out what else is likely to follow.
Cabinet Decision 66/2023 sets a statutory minimum warranty of fifteen days on repair work in the UAE, plus a documented estimate with your consent before work and an itemised invoice after. Ours is ninety days. If the machine is still inside its original manufacturer warranty, call the brand first.

Our full dishwasher service â freestanding, built-in and integrated machines.
The full symptom page: filter, pump and waste connection checked in order.
The other pump â the one driving the spray arms, tested under load.
A silted sump and blocked spray jets often arrive together.
Drain-related codes read on the machine rather than guessed from a forum.
Tower access arranged and shared waste stacks understood before the visit.
By testing it rather than by reading the symptom, because standing water tells you nothing about the cause. The filter stack comes out first and the sump is cleared, then the impeller is turned by hand with the power off to see whether it spins freely. If it does, the pump is mechanically sound. Continuity and resistance are then measured across the terminals with the connector removed, which is what proves an open winding. Where the control board drives the pump, we confirm it is sending drive before anything is condemned.
Usually not. A hum means power is reaching the motor and the motor is trying to turn, which is close to the opposite of an electrically dead pump. It normally means something is wedged against an impeller blade â a fruit stone, a shard of glass, a twist tie, a soaked paper label. The motor stalls and buzzes. Clear the obstruction and the impeller spins freely again. A pump that has genuinely seized on its bearing sounds identical to the ear, which is why it gets tested rather than guessed at.
The filter stack yes. Unplug the machine at the socket, lift out the filter assembly, rinse it under a tap, and check the well underneath is clear. That one job resolves a large share of the drain complaints we attend. What you must not do is sweep the sump with bare fingers. If a glass has ever broken in that machine there will be fragments down there, invisible against wet steel and sharp enough to cut deeply. Use a torch and long-nose pliers, and stop at the impeller cover.
The sump does load faster here, though not for the reason usually given. In summer the cold supply is not cold. Uninsulated rooftop tanks have been reported at 50 to 60 degrees and villa cold lines often deliver 35 to 40, against a dishwasher inlet temperature manufacturers put at around 49. Fill that hot and the heating phase is over before it begins, and detergent enzymes are denatured before they can break down protein soils. That residue comes off as solid matter instead, and it lands in the filter and sump.
On most machines it is worth replacing. A drain pump is one of the cheaper components in a dishwasher, well below a wash pump, a door assembly or a control board, and on most models a straightforward fit. The judgement is really about the rest of the machine. If the door seal is tired, the wash motor is noisy and the sump is corroding, we will set out what is likely to follow so you can weigh one repair against a replacement.
Ninety days on parts and labour. For context, Cabinet Decision 66/2023 sets a statutory minimum of fifteen days on repair work in the UAE, and requires a documented estimate with your consent before work begins and an itemised invoice afterwards. Expect all three from any repairer here. One caveat worth stating plainly: if your dishwasher is still inside its original manufacturer warranty, contact the brand before you contact us. We will say so on the phone rather than after the booking is taken.
Filter, sump and impeller cleared and the pump tested before any part is quoted. Fault, fix and price agreed with you before work starts.
Standing water, a hum with no drainage, complete silence, or water that drains and then flows back in. Each one points somewhere different.
