What Your Siemens Washing Machine Error Code Means

Siemens uses the BSH code family, so these will look familiar to anyone who has owned a Bosch machine.

E18 / F18

Drain fault. Water not pumped out in time. Pump filter, drain hose or drain pump — usually the filter.

E17 / F17

Fill timeout. Not taking water fast enough. Tap, kinked hose, blocked inlet filter or inlet valve.

E23 / F23

Aquastop triggered. Water in the base tray. A genuine internal leak — treat as urgent.

F21

Motor fault. Carbon brushes on brushed motors, tacho coil, motor wiring or the control module.

F16

Door not closed. Door not latching or the interlock not confirming. Often the lock or a worn catch.

F43

Drum not turning. Motor not rotating the drum — jammed drum, drive fault or motor failure.

F19

Heating timeout. Water not reaching temperature — heating element or NTC sensor.

F22

Sensor fault. NTC temperature sensor out of range or open circuit.

F31

Water level too high. Overfilling — inlet valve stuck open or pressure system misreading.

F34 / F36

Door lock system. Interlock not engaging or releasing correctly — lock or its control circuit.

F63 / E67

Module fault. Control module or function error, always tested before any board is replaced.

E02

Motor error. Motor circuit fault reported by the module, checked alongside brushes and wiring.

We repair Siemens machines as an independent third party and use the brand name only to identify the machines we work on.

Are Siemens and Bosch washing machines basically the same inside?

They share a great deal. Both are made by the BSH group and equivalent models are built on common platforms, which means the fault code sets overlap almost completely and many components are similar or directly interchangeable. It is genuinely good news for UAE owners, because it widens parts availability and keeps repair costs down. The differences are mostly in the control interface, the programme set and the trim.

What does E18 mean on my Siemens washing machine?

E18 is a drain fault — the machine did not pump the water out in the expected time. The usual cause is the pump filter behind the small flap at the bottom front, which collects coins, hair clips and lint. After that it is a blocked drain hose or a failed drain pump. It is one of the cheaper Siemens repairs, and quite often the filter simply needs clearing.

My Siemens machine has stopped and shows E23. What is that?

That is the Aquastop leak protection. There is a float switch in the base tray, and when water collects there the machine shuts down and refuses to run so it does not flood the room. It means there is a real leak inside — a hose, the sump, the pump housing or the tub seal. It should be attended to promptly, particularly in an apartment above another home.

What is the difference between the iQ300, iQ500 and iQ700 ranges?

The iQ number indicates the specification level rather than a different machine architecture. Higher iQ ranges add features such as more advanced sensing, quieter brushless motors and automatic detergent dosing. From a repair point of view the core mechanics are closely related across the ranges, but the higher models carry more electronics, so sensor and module diagnosis matters more on those.

Will an independent repair affect my Siemens warranty?

If your machine is still within its manufacturer warranty period, contact Siemens or your retailer first, because a repair by any third party can affect that cover. Our service is intended for out-of-warranty machines, or where the owner has chosen to use an independent repairer.
