Washing Machine Leaking Water — Find the Source, Fix It Fast

Where the water appears, and when it appears, tells you almost exactly which part has failed. Use the guide below to identify your leak — then switch the machine off and call us before it reaches your flooring or your neighbour's ceiling.

We are an independent repair company — not an authorized service center of any washing machine brand. Brand names on this page are used only to identify the machines we repair. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.

⚠️ Do These Two Things Right Now

1. Switch the machine off at the wall socket. Not at the machine's own button — at the socket. Water pooling around a powered appliance is an electrical hazard, and this removes it.

2. Close the water tap feeding the machine. It is usually on the wall behind or beside the machine. If the leak is on the fill side, this stops it immediately rather than letting it continue while you work out what to do.

Then mop up, and note where the water was coming from and at what point in the cycle. That single observation is what turns a vague "it leaks" into a precise diagnosis — and it is the difference between one visit and two.

Leak Location Guide

Where the Water Appears Tells You What Has Failed

Find the description that matches what you are seeing. Each one points to a different component.

💧 Front, under the door, during the wash

Door seal (bellows). The rubber has perished, torn at the bottom, or been cut by an underwire or sharp object. Debris trapped in the fold accelerates it. Replaced, not patched — a common and straightforward repair.

💧 From the detergent drawer

Blocked drawer or dispenser. Detergent residue and softener sludge block the jets so water backs up and overflows. Often fixed by a thorough clean rather than any new part.

💧 At the back of the machine

Inlet hose or its connections. A loose coupling at the tap or machine end, a perished washer inside the fitting, or a split in the hose itself. On the pressure side, so it can leak fast.

💧 Underneath, only while draining

Pump housing or drain hose. A cracked pump body, a loose or perished filter seal, or a split drain hose. Appears only when the pump is running, which is the giveaway.

💧 Underneath, only on spin

Sump hose or a loose clip. Hard spinning and vibration loosen the clamp between the drum and the pump, so it weeps only when the machine is working hardest.

💧 A slow constant puddle underneath

Possibly the tub seal. The most serious of the leaks here — water escaping past the main drum shaft seal. Needs proper assessment, as it often accompanies worn bearings.

💧 Right after the filter was cleaned

Filter not seated correctly. Very common. The filter must be screwed fully home with its seal clean and undamaged. Worth re-checking before assuming a fault.

💧 Only with lots of foam

Excess detergent. Suds forced out through the drawer or the door seal. Not a mechanical failure — reduce the dose and use a detergent suited to front loaders.

💧 Machine has stopped and shows a code

Leak sensor triggered. The base-tray float has detected water and shut the machine down deliberately. There is a real leak inside to find.

Why Leaks Get Worse Fast

A Small Leak Is a Deadline, Not an Inconvenience

Most washing machine leaks start as a few drops and are ignored for weeks. The problem is what those drops are doing while nobody is watching. Water tracks under the machine and along the floor, gets underneath vinyl or laminate, and soaks into the chipboard carcass of the kitchen units on either side. Chipboard swells and does not recover, so a five-minute hose clip becomes a cabinet replacement.

In an apartment the calculation is worse. Water finds the slab, then the ceiling of the unit below, and at that point you are dealing with your neighbour, your building management and possibly two insurance claims — over a part that would have cost very little to replace.

This is also why machines fitted into sealed cabinetry, which is standard in a lot of Dubai apartments, are the ones that cause the most damage. The joinery hides the leak until it appears somewhere else entirely, so if your machine is integrated and you have noticed any dampness, it is worth acting on immediately.

Error Codes

Leak Detection Codes By Brand

If your machine has shut itself down, its base-tray leak sensor has probably triggered.

Our Repair Process

What the Technician Does On Arrival

Isolate & Protect

Power and water isolated, floor protection down, and the machine drained safely before it is moved.

Locate the Source

The machine is run under observation so the leak is seen happening, rather than guessed at from a puddle.

Check Everything Wet

Once one leak is found, surrounding hoses, clips and seals are checked too — water damages more than one part.

Fixed Quotation

The exact price for parts and labour before anything is replaced. Nothing proceeds without your approval.

Test Under Load

A full cycle including drain and spin is run and watched, to confirm the leak is genuinely gone.

FAQ

Washing Machine Leaking — Your Questions

What should I do first if my washing machine is leaking?

Switch the machine off at the wall socket and close the water tap feeding it. Those two actions stop the leak getting worse and remove the electrical risk of water around a powered appliance. Then mop up what is there and note exactly where the water is appearing from, because that tells the technician which component has failed.

How do I tell where the leak is coming from?

The location and timing are the diagnosis. Water at the front under the door during the wash usually means the door seal. Water from the detergent drawer means a blocked drawer or dispenser. Water at the back means the inlet hose connections. Water underneath only while it drains points to the pump housing or sump hose. A slow constant puddle underneath is more serious and often means the tub seal.

Is it safe to keep using a washing machine that leaks?

No. Water and mains electricity in the same place is a genuine hazard, and beyond the safety issue a small leak damages flooring and kitchen units quickly. In an apartment it can reach the unit below and turn a small repair bill into a much larger liability. Stop using the machine until the leak has been found and fixed.

Why has my machine stopped completely and shown an error since the leak started?

Many machines have a leak sensor in the base tray that shuts the machine down deliberately when it detects water. Bosch calls it Aquastop and reports E23 or F23, Samsung shows LE or LC, and LG shows AE. The machine is not broken in a new way — it is refusing to run because it has detected the leak you are already seeing.

Can a leaking door seal be repaired or does it need replacing?

Door seals are replaced rather than patched. The rubber bellows perishes, tears at the bottom where water and debris collect, or gets cut by an underwired bra or a sharp object. It is a straightforward part to fit and one of the more common leak repairs we do, particularly on machines that are five years old or more.

How quickly can you attend a leak in Dubai?

We treat leaks as a priority and hold same-day slots across Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Ajman within our working hours of 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. If you are in an apartment above another unit, tell us when you call and we will prioritise accordingly.

Leaking Now? Switch It Off and Call Us
