Bur Dubai's housing stock is mostly dense mid-rise buildings, many of them walk-ups, with narrow internal staircases and tight landings. Where there is a lift it is frequently a single small one shared with ground-floor commercial tenants, so it spends a good part of the day carrying stock rather than people.
Residents here have often been told by other companies that a machine needs to be "taken to the workshop". That is worth pushing back on, because it is rarely necessary. The overwhelming majority of washing machine repairs are done with the machine standing where it is — drain pumps, door locks, heating elements, belts, brushes, motors, timers, sensors and control boards are all accessible in position. Removing a machine down five flights of stairs is an expensive, risky operation that the job usually does not require.
